difference between STD and SAE?

What is difference between the 2 on a dyno? I know STD shows the larger number, but other than that what are the differences?

RE: difference between STD and SAE?

They are nothing more than correction factors. SAE J1349 was created to make all hp/tq readings from the automotive manufacturers equal. This way a vehicle manufactured in Japan would have the hp/tq measured the same as a vehicle manufactured here in the states. STD correction just uses a different formula to correct for Altitude, Humidity, and air density than SAE, hence that high numbers.

RE: difference between STD and SAE?

Funny.... when I saw "STD" in the title, I thought about something completely different, and wondered if the thread was misplaced and belonged in the "Tranmission" Forum.

RE: difference between STD and SAE?

Which is the one to go by I see a lot of people going by STD. I have always thought my car had low numbers (I was going by my SAE numbers). But now I see that if I go by STD numbers.....my car rocks. Aric is that man!

Mike is the man, so what made you think this is about thetransmission thread? It seems like you are very conscious with the topic STD.Anyway mine is SAE, but I think there is no big difference at all. The methodused by STD is just a bit different from SAE but all the same they stillcorrect altitude, air density and humidity.

All I can comment is on my car. I have an 03 Cobra that was tuned by Aric and it made 494 rwhp (SAE). If you switch the software over from SAE to STD, now the dyno says it makes 510 rwhp. That is a pretty big difference.
I also have a 01 Z06 which I bought used and the guy had a dyno sheet showing the car makes 470 rwhp and 496 rwtq (STD numbers). I put it on Aric's dyno and the car made 453 rwhp and 487 rwtq (SAE). That too is a pretty big difference. So according to the dyno with my cars, STD shows inflated numbers.
Really the real deal is how your car puts down the power to the wheels.

Knowing this outfit as I do, I figgered they'd be concerned about the "transmission" of STDs...
