First Track Times for GoldBird

OK, OK..... We got to the track too late to actually compete in the race, but we did get 4 passes in....

I took the first pass:

p
I was so excited, I forgot to let the air out of the rear tires. I ran with 22psi :xpshame: -- but at least I staged the front tires and had the car in drive. Traction was non-existent in 1st and 2nd. I headed for the other lane through both gears (I think Scott closed his eyes), and had to get off the gas twice, it was like stopping at traffic lights -- hence the 13 second time, but the 114mph told me that good things were gonna happen.... I don't have the vid of the first pass, but someone does.

.... and they did. Aric Carrion of Injected Engineering took over the driving. He's the tuner, and has lots of skills and experience with high power launches. We let air out of the tires down to 15psi ... Here's GB's second pass:

Much better.... still no hookie, but Aric knows how to hang on and keep it straight.
Here's the vid of the second pass.

I'm gonna skip the third pass and get back to it. GB backed up the 11.5 with a 11.3 the fourth pass. Aric pulled some power out, you'll see why when I cover the third pass, and 13psi in the tires:

Still no hookie. Here's the vid of the fourth pass.

The third pass was a bit scary. I looked at Scott, and I thought he was gonna sheat, I did ... Here's the slip for the third pass:

At the 2-3 shift, Aric got off it big time... there was a small puff of blue smoke.. Here's the vid of the third pass.. listen carefully to the announcer and you'll understand why I had to change pants..

Since there was a fourth pass, obviously the "oil on the track" announcement was not true, but there was a reason Aric got off it ... Can you say "Race fuel please?"

That's the number eight plug. There was a matching plug on the passenger bank. The original plan was to put a 50-50 mix of pump and race gas in, but we got there too late, and they had stopped selling race gas. Aric pulled power out and we were good for the first two passes, but we added a bunch more ice to the aftercooler reservoir and cool can for the third pass, and voila -- that's why Aric pulled some more power out for the fourth run.... but look at the 1/8 mile time - it's faster than the 11.3 pass.

We all were extremely happy with the debut track results. We anticipated traction issues, and we had them, but the top end is awesome. We've got a baseline tune and set up to work from.

.... But that is not the best part of the story ... Here's the best part :

I got up to Atlanta on Wednesday, and spent Thursday and Friday running around town doing last minute stuff in GB, just like you'd do in a daily driver. I put about 100 miles or so of street driving on her, and she drives like a dream ... she is very tame, like a sleeping lion, until you put your foot in it, then she wakes up... and oh boy does she wake up.

On the trip up to Commerce we cruised about 75-80 all the way for about an hour, then stopped for drinks and snacks... when we stopped, we checked to see how hot the intake was - we could rest our hands on the intake.. it wasn't even hot. On the way back the ACTs were 80-84 degrees...

She is all we wanted her to be, and way, way more...

AWESOME RUNS!!!! It sounds awesome going down the track. I do have one question...out of ALL the people there Aric was the best candidate to make the passes??!! I guess if you are in a pinch its not to bad an idea. It would just scare me if you have read his signature on the forum....'97 Cobra - Not running
'96 T-Bird - Not running ....those are due to his driving skills. HAHA just kidding of course....glad you made it to the track and the car ran well!!!!!
