I purchased a SCT Flash Tuner from a well known Viper shop over a year ago. I was given unlimited free tunes, via e-mail, based on my mods. Making a short story even shorter, the tunes I tried were all worse than my baseline run. A few more tunes were e-mailed to me, which were also not very good(too lean). I realize that canned tunes that are based on XYZ mods will never substitute a tune performed in person while on a dyno, but I didn't realize the tunes I received would be that bad. The story gets better. The shop I used had me download my stock tune and then sent it to SCT, who told them my stock tune had been modified. They explained that's why I was losing power, because more parameters could be changed by altering my pcm. This is all Greek to me, as I have no tuning experience whatsoever.
I'm posting 2 graphs below. The first graph is right after I bought my car (97 Viper GTS) and was in 2006. The second is an overlay of three runs on the same day in 2008. The difference between the runs were the tunes. Run 003 was the SCT 93 octane tune. Run 005 was the SCT 91 octane tune. Run 006 was the stock tune, or at least the tune without the SCT program.
Here's my question. Would it be worth a second opinion, or at least getting my car on the dyno and tuning it from there? I think it's possible my car's pcm has not been altered and that it's maybe an excuse as to why they can't get the tune right. Who knows?
Thanks!
