Newbie here....car will be tuned shortly

My name's Brad and I've got a unique/different car, it is a 1979 4dr Fairmont with a fuel injected 331 B50 block with a Pony Down Stage 3 kit, and a masterpower T70 (for now).

I had the car up at the shop last week but got it back before Aric could get it tuned (swapping intakes).

WELL.....long story short. I found out why my flanges kept leaking....The top edge of the flange was hitting on the "lower" edge of the heads where they go from the flat sealing edge towards where the valve covers seal. Therefore it was kicking the top edge out away from the heads and the copper rtv could only handle/fill up so much of a gap.

The REASON I found this problem is b/c when in Bowling Green I picked up a Systemax upper/lower (among other things) and was going to sell my ported Cobra upper/lower. The Cobra is now gone, and the systemax lower is on, the engine is OUT of the car and on the stand, I've made the necessary clearances so the exhaust flanges will sit flush and helicoiled all the header bolt holes (save the ones on the ends which are studs).

This combined with the 14+lb. wastegate spring should make for a fun streetcar set on KILL. I'll be getting separate tunes for both the 7lb spring and the 14lb spring (2 separate Tial Wastegates) until I get a boost controller either electric or manual.

In addition I'm getting pretty good @ R&R this turbo kit...lol I got it removed and the entire engine ready to be pulled (minus the 6 tranny-engine bolts) done by myself in about 3 hours, which included pulling the upper/lower cobra and swapping the sensors over to the Holley intake.

In addition I've got a new 1993 Cobra brake booster to put in tomorrow (to go with the 4 wheel disk setup), so that should take care of my brake issue (or lack thereof!!!). New diaphragm for Tial V44 should be here on thursday. So Ryan......you should hear from me by the end of the week (crosses fingers).

Thanks and can't wait to get the car tuned for some serious power.

Brad

I hear ya Aric, I thought about trying to find some 17" police steelies to put on there. Ryan and I were talking about that when I dropped it off last time! Just let it get a "patina" on it...hahaha, that and a "save the TaTa's" sticker on the back would set it off!

HAHAHAHAHA OMG, NOW THAT would be AWESOME!!!

Aric, you'll be glad to know that I "think" I got my brake (or lackthereof) issue fixed today!!! I put in a '93 Cobra brake booster, being as the 'mont has 4 wheel disk brakes on it....I figured you might appreciate that since you like to take em for a "spin" after you tune em.

I won't know for sure till I get the motor back in the car. Which should be by friday afternoon, I'm waiting for some bolts to come in.

The deal with the brakes is I've got plenty of pedal (firmness wise) it just wouldn't brake too well. I'm thinking there wasn't enough volume to supply fluid to all the calipers with the original booster and the 93 master cylinder. I'll bleed them again good once the motor is back in, but this should get it back in shape.....:crossesfingers:

Cool deal. Yes having brakes is a good thing. Hell, I might take it out and make alittle money with it while I have it!

Well you know how booked out I stay so..... just get here when you can.

Later!
